Multi-billion dollar natural gas-to-liquids plant feasibility study

first_imgAccording to a Vancouver Sun story, the price tag could be as much as 10 billion dollars as Calgary-based Talisman Energy and the South African energy company, Sasol, move forward with plans for a Western Canada natural gas-to-liquids plant. The latest step is a feasibility study to be conducted by the international energy firm, Foster Wheeler Corporation, which has its main executive offices in New Jersey. That will reportedly focus on the cost and location of the plant, which would plug into shale gas deposits here in Northeast BC.- Advertisement -Talisman and Sasol are partners in two shale gas assets in the Montney basin in the South Peace, and the Sun story says Energy Minister Rich Coleman has confirmed the BC government has had talks with Talisman on locating the proposed plant in this province.Recall that Sasol…considered the global leader in gas-to-liquids technology…got into the Montney basin by paying just over a billion dollars in March to acquire a 50 percent stake in Talisman’s Farrel Creek shale gas assests. Then earlier this month it did the same thing, for about the same amount, acquiring a 50 percent stake in Talisman’s Cypress A gas assets.Advertisementlast_img read more

From player to one-man multinational — Ronaldo

first_img0Shares0000On the way to a third straight Champions League crown — which proved to be his Real Madrid swansong — Ronaldo kisses the trophy after winning The Best FIFA Men’s Player of 2017 award last October © AFP/File / Ben STANSALLMADRID, Spain, Jul 11 – He may not have added the World Cup to his Euro 16 success and hattrick of Champions Leagues. But with another Ballon d’Or looking likely and a move to Juventus complete, Cristiano Ronaldo’s status is as much that of multinational as footballer. The 33-year–old had long ago moved onto another plane in his nine years at the Bernabeu as the galactico of galacticos.Sporting Lisbon first nurtured his talents before Manchester United launched the process of turning him into a global icon over six years at Old Trafford. But his Real achievements have transformed the Portuguese into the Beautiful Game’s megastar who now embarks on a fresh challenge at a “new stage in his life”Shirt-shifter. On the pitch and off, the Ronaldo effect is already happening as fans show their appreciation of their new purchase in front of the Juventus store © AFP / Isabella BonottoAfter five Ballons d’Or and countless trophies, as well as more than a goal a game in his time with Real to capture 15 trophies, Ronaldo has nothing more to prove on the pitch as he heads for Turin on a four-year contract worth 30 million euros ($35 million) per season. His 34 hattricks in Spain are a record for La Liga, but one triple crown he missed out on this year was as the best paid athlete on the planet.Ronaldo had basked in the accolade for the past two years, but this time Forbes magazine gave that particular title to longtime rival Lionel Messi ahead of boxer Floyd Mayweather. That, and a last 16 World Cup exit was sweetened by the knowledge that still he pulled in $108 million over the past 12 months — 61 million in wages and the remainder in various endorsements.Accused by the Spanish taxman of hiding some of his off-field earnings Ronaldo agreed last month to pay 18.8 million euros to avoid jail. One thing sponsors linking their name with Ronaldo don’t do is lose their shirt — a single social media post from the player advertising merchandise can be worth millions © AFP/File / OSCAR DEL POZOAs befits a man of his renown, CR7 has no fewer than 330 million “followers” on social media — more than any other athlete, meaning sponsors queue to make him the face of their merchandise.– Nike for life –Those sponsors include French telecoms giant SFR, Swiss watch firm Tag Heuer, Japanese gaming conglomerate Konami, oil behemoth Castrol and the Emirates airline. That breadth and depth of marketing reach means there is no risk of his being reduced to a mere “advertising hoarding,” Jean-Philippe Danglade, author of “Marketing et Celebrities,” told AFP recently. His strongest association, going back to 2003, is with Nike with whom he two years ago signed a new long-term sponsorship deal worth a minimum reported 20 milion euros a year and that he indicated was “for life.”Marca suggested if certain non publicly-specified goals are met, the annual value of the deal could be worth around 40 million. After nine years in the white of Real Madrid, Ronaldo says the time has come “for a new stage” in his life as he eyes a new on-pitch challenge in Serie A with Juve © AFP/File / GABRIEL BOUYS“It’s the best contract I’ve had in my entire career,” he noted.Forbes drew a comparison between the ‘bling-bling’ image of Ronaldo and the more reserved image of Messi.Whereas in 2016 Messi reportedly lifted Adidas sales by an estimated $53.3 million, the Ronaldo effect lifted Nike into the stratosphere by some 500 million.– Multimillion media post –A simple Ronaldo post to social media can shift millions, as witnessed by a post to Instagram after Portugal won Euro 2016 which according to sports sponsorship valuation platform Hookit was worth $5.8 million to Nike.Juventus shares on the Milan stock exchange jumped nearly 40% since June 28 when rumours of Renaldo’s arrival began to solidify. Shares fell mnore tha six percent early Wednesday on profit-taking.As sportsman-cum-entrepreneur Ronaldo also took a sartorial leaf out of the book of Real galactico predecessor and fashion icon David Beckham and basketball legend Michael Jordan to push sports gear to similar heights which the former England star and Jordan, notably with his “Jumpman” logo, had achieved before him.“It’s the little black book of illustrated marketing,” says Danglade, researcher at Kedge Business School, noting how Ronaldo’s image straddles everything from product, to service, to digital interface.Such huge marketing reach is “extremely rare. Madeira airport bears his name. In terms of (entering) the collective imagination it’s truly impressive.”The hottest story in town — Italian papers devote their front pages to the man who has become a one-man footballing multinational © AFP / MIGUEL MEDINAThe 2006 opening of a CR7 underwear line in his native was barely an opening off-field gambit for Ronaldo, who has branched out not least in the fashion stakes into jeans, shoes and sundry accessories.Three years ago he teamed up with his country’s leading hotel chain, Pestana, for a joint venture to build five CR7 branded hotels as the chain targets a greater slice of the international luxury accommodation market. With his off-the-field interests covered, Ronaldo can concentrate on his upcoming Italian job, showcasing his brand in a country where fashion and football happily co-exist in a market seemingly tailor made for his twilight on-pitch years.0Shares0000(Visited 1 times, 1 visits today)last_img read more

Ozil leads five-star Arsenal past Bournemouth

first_imgLys Mousset briefly gave Bournemouth hope before half-time, but Ozil and Mkhitaryan combined once more to tee up Laurent Koscielny to make it 3-1 before Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Alexandre Lacazette rounded off an eighth straight Premier League win at the Emirates for Emery’s men.The Spanish coach has been reluctant to use Arsenal’s highest earner in his debut season in charge as Ozil was making just his second league start of the year. However, the former Real Madrid midfielder showed why Arsenal handed him a contract worth a reported £350,000 a week last January by rolling back the years as the link-up between him and Mkhitaryan questioned why they had not started together in the Premier League since November.Emery now has a welcome selection headache for Saturday’s crucial north London derby away to Tottenham on whether to stick with Ozil and Mkhitaryan, while Aubameyang and Lacazette are also in top form and vying for a place up front.Arsenal were helped along the way by some feeble Bournemouth defending as the Cherries succumbed to a 10 consecutive away defeat.Artur Boruc should have got a stronger hand to Ozil’s shot that bounced over the Polish goalkeeper to give the hosts a perfect start. At the other end, Arsenal’s own defensive deficiencies were also on show at times as only a fine save from Bernd Leno denied Ryan Fraser an equaliser before Dan Gosling’s follow-up effort was bravely blocked by Matteo Guendouzi.Bournemouth caused their own problems again in the build-up to Arsenal’s second as Adam Smith gifted possession to Mkhitaryan, but it was still brilliantly pounced upon as the Armenian exchanged passes with Ozil before slotting into an empty net.A hint of complacency cost Arsenal moments later when Guendouzi was caught in possession on the edge of his own box by Gosling and he squared for Mousset to roll into an empty net. However, Arsenal clicked through the gears after the break and put the game to bed before the hour mark. The Ozil-Mkhitaryan connection again opened up Bournemouth down Arsenal’s right and Mkhitaryan picked out Koscielny, whose shot deflected in off Nathan Ake.Mkhitaryan was the creator again for the fourth when his through ball freed Aubameyang in behind the Bournemouth defence and the Gabon striker stayed cool to round Boruc and slot home his 19th goal of the season.A start for Aubameyang meant Lacazette had to settle for a place on the bench, but the French international still had time to add his 14th of the campaign with a brilliant free-kick 12 minutes from time.0Shares0000(Visited 1 times, 1 visits today) 0Shares0000Mesut Ozil scored and set up Henrikh Mkhitaryan for Arsenal’s second goal against Bournemouth© AFP Ian KINGTONLONDON, United Kingdom, Feb 28 – Mesut Ozil made the most of being handed a rare start by Arsenal boss Unai Emery as the German masterminded a 5-1 victory over Bournemouth on Wednesday to keep the Gunners in pole position for a top-four finish in the Premier League.Ozil opened the scoring after just four minutes before turning provider for Henrikh Mkhitaryan to double Arsenal’s lead.last_img read more

Retailers resort to special events

first_img AD Quality Auto 360p 720p 1080p Top articles1/5READ MOREWhicker: Clemson demonstrates that it’s tough to knock out the champ “Procrastination is a big factor at this point,” said Bill Martin, co-founder of ShopperTrak RCT Corp., saying the extra week and the weekend ahead just before Christmas, which falls on a Tuesday, adds to shopping delays. “It’s sort of like a perfect storm for those who like to wait until the last minute.” Chicago-based ShopperTrak, which monitors sales at more than 50,000 retail outlets, reported Dec. 5 that sales for the week ended Dec. 1 declined 4.4 percent from the year-ago period, the largest year-over-year sales decline since March. “I think the retailers have got to focus on their promotions to draw that traffic to them, create that sense of urgency,” said Mike Brown, a retail strategist with Kurt Salmon Associates. Once the customers are in, Brown said, stores try to spur unplanned buying with alluring merchandise displays or bargain items at store entrances, and incentives such as $10 gift cards for $50 purchases or coupons that can only be used on return visits in early December. CINCINNATI – Retailers trying to brighten up what looks like a drab period for shopping are rolling out eye-catching packaging, celebrity tie-ins, and contests for everything from Hannah Montana tickets to an African safari. Their challenge: to offset expected low shopper traffic over an extended holiday season by luring consumers into their stores and keeping them there long enough to pick up some extra gifts. With many families on tight budgets and facing high gas prices, this year’s holiday shopping traffic was already expected to be slow, and retailers also had an extra week in November because Thanksgiving fell on Nov.22. Although the Black Friday weekend immediately after Thanksgiving saw strong retail sales, industry reports show a lull since. center_img Retailers are also featuring celebrities and contests to bring out customers. Target Corp.’s “Wow or Never” gift collection allowed customers to enter sweepstakes for prizes such as an African safari or a black Maserati. Buying an American Idol karaoke machine, for example, meant entry for a trip to the reality show’s finale. For Victoria’s Secret, special promotions, packaging and small gift items for the holidays are meant to heat up what’s been slow mall traffic for much of the year. After the recently televised annual Victoria’s Secret TV show, there are events planned featuring star models.160Want local news?Sign up for the Localist and stay informed Something went wrong. DARKNESS INTO LIGHT EVENT TO START IN MAGHERY IN MAY

first_imgThe Darkness into Light event is a worldwide suicide and self-harm awareness event and fundraiser held to support Pieta House Crisis Centre. Specifically, the event is a public 5K charity walk beginning 4:15am and ending at approximately 5:30am – 5:45am on Saturday 9th May 2015 in Maghery, County Donegal, with all proceeds going to Pieta House.Participating locations span across the globe; from Phoenix Park, Dublin, to Sydney, Australia. The concept of walking together as a group from the darkness of night time to the breaking of daylight symbolises the journey many people experience when they suffer from poor mental health. This event is held in Maghery village on the coast of the North Atlantic, which is sure to contribute to the character of this special event. In previous years the closest Darkness into Light event for people in the Rosses has been Letterkenny, but with the establishment of the event more locally, people do not face the risks associated with travelling to and from the event so late / early in the morning.“We encourage those from beyond the upper and lower Rosses – where it might be both safer and more feasible – to attend the Maghery event. We really appreciate your support with this very important fundraising event for mental health. Testimonials from people who have participated in the event in previous years report that the event is special in many ways.“Therefore, we hope this event will be no different and we look forward to helping to start the conversation and raise awareness about mental health locally,” said a spokesman. Please Like our Facebook page https://www.facebook.com/dilmaghery to keep up to date with details and plans for the event, the 5K route, or to make general inquiries.
